Softbank moves to invest in Updater

Softbank Capital, a corporate venturing unit owned by Japan-based conglomerate Softbank, has invested in an $8m round raised by Updater, the US-based developer of an app that helps people move house, TechCrunch has reported. IA Ventures, Commerce Ventures and Second Century Ventures also participated in the round.

Updater’s app acts as a dashboard for your house move by allowing users to change their address online for utilities and subscriptions. So far, the company has integrated, either directly or indirectly, with around 60,000 vendors.

New York-based Updater will use the money to further develop the app and sign on more vendors so it can provide a better service for its users. It previously raised $800,000 in seed funding in 2011, an amount that TechCrunch said had increased to $2m by the closing of the seed round.
