Space Camp launches Mission 9

UK-based private equity group Seraphim Capital’s corporate-backed 11-week accelerator, Space Camp, selected the ninth cohort of seven companies today.

Mission 9 included four domestic startups: orbital transfer vehicle provider Lunasa Space, debris monitoring service Odin, satellite thermal management system developer Smart IR and Deep Planet, which is working on an Earth observation analytics tool for sustainable viticulture.

Norway-based user interaction system developer Ntention, Germany-headquartered greenhouse gas monitoring satellite operator Airmo and Cislunar Industries, a space debris recycling technology provider from the United States, are also among the participants in the batch.

The initiative counts corporate partners including aerospace group Airbus, cloud computing platform provider Amazon Web Services, communications satellite operator Hispasat, geographic information software provider Cyient and small satellite manufacturer Surrey Satellite Technology.

Satellite technology companies Satellite Applications Catapult, Telespazio and SES are backing the scheme, as are electrical equipment manufacturer Teledyne E2V, business development and marketing services provider Qi3, telecoms firm Sprint, accounting firm Alliotts and law firm Dentons.

State-owned financial services firm British Business Bank’s National Security Strategic Investment Fund filled out the partner roster along with UK Space Agency and UK Ministry of Defence’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory.

Richard Franklin, managing director of Airbus Defence and Space UK, said: “With the launch of Space Camp 9, Seraphim has found another seven fascinating and unique companies that all have great potential.

“As a founding investor in Seraphim, we are proud to help support and mentor this latest group of startups as they make their journey into the future – and we will actively assist them to become part of the growing UK and global space ecosystem and supply chain.”
