Sparta Science, a US-based health optimisation technology developer backed by mobile chipmaker Qualcomm, has received $16m in a series B Round led by venture capital firm GSR Ventures.
Private equity firm Arsenal Growth also participated in the round along with undisclosed existing investors, bringing the company’s overall funding to approximately $26m.
Founded in 2016, Sparta has created a system that utilises machine learning and data software to conduct musculoskeletal scans and prescribe effective exercise and activity in order to help with physical rehabilitation.
The technology is used by the military as well as health systems and sports franchises spanning basketball, football, baseball and American football. The funding will be used to help Sparta expand its offering in healthcare and its governmental work.
The company secured $2.7m in a 2017 seed round that included Qualcomm’s corporate VC arm, Qualcomm Ventures, as well as Fyrfly Ventures, Spider Capital and XSeed Capital. It added $7m in an early 2018 series A round led by Playground Global.
Phil Wagner, Sparta Science’s founder and chief executive, said: “As the healthcare industry continues its digital transformation and places a major focus on movement as a vital sign, Sparta Science is well-positioned to effectively answer the call.”
