UK-based media and advertising company WPP has promoted Scott Spirit, its chief strategy officer, to chief digital officer, Campaign Asia-Pacific reported on Friday.
As chief digital officer, Spirit will oversee digital strategy, co-ordinate digital resources, investments, provide oversight of partnerships and manage Stream, the company’s digital conference. WPP Digital also acts as the company’s corporate venturing unit.
The new role is an extension of his current responsibilities, which he has held since 2010. Spirit will continue to serve in his current role as chief strategy officer and will be responsible for WPP’s global corporate strategy including mergers and acquisitions, investments and business development.
In addition, Mark Povey, general counsel for WPP, will take over the role of chief operating officer for WPP Digtial. Povey will work in both roles going forward and will assist Spirit in developing WPP Digital portfolio companies.
The appointment follows the January 2015 announcement that WPP Digital’s chief executive Mark Read was to leave the company for advertising and media group Wunderman. Read had been repeatedly selected for the Global Corporate Venturing Powerlist.
