Square, a mobile payments company backed by US-based credit card company Visa, has hired Rob von Behren, formerly of Google Wallet, a rival service run by the search engine.
Von Behren, a co-founder of Google Wallet, said he had joined Square on his LinkedIn profile at the beginning of this month.
Square’s backers in a $103m November round (the final number was confirmed in a December Securities and Exchange Commission filing) were venture capital firms Khosla Ventures, Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and investment firm Tiger Global Management. Credit card company Visa also made an investment earlier in the 2011.
The payments company also revealed last year Virgin Group’s Richard Branson was among the investors in the company. Square has raised more than $140m.
