UK-based utility Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) has increased its minority equity stake in renewable energy producer Wind Towers to a majority holding.
SSE has agreed to acquire 40.05% of Wind Towers from Marsh Wind Technology to take its total shareholding to 80.1%.
The remaining 19.9% of ordinary share capital is held by Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
Wind Towers is a joint venture established in February 2011 to purchase the Skykon wind turbine tower manufacturing and assembly plant at Machrihanish, Scotland.
Wind Towers had been a portfolio company of SSE’s corporate venturing unit spun off to be managed by venture capital firm Scottish Equity Partners earlier this year.
