US-based aerospace and weapons technology accelerator Starburst launched a Singaporean venture dubbed Aviation Tech Accelerator Program yesterday with support from corporates Panasonic, SATS and Singapore Airlines.
Panasonic Avionics Corporation, electronics producer Panasonic’s airline technology subsidiary, joined airline operator Singapore Airlines, in-flight catering provider SATS and the state-owned Enterprise Singapore as partners for the initiative.
Aviation Tech Accelerator Program will accept 10 startups a year that are working on technologies which could solve issues for airlines, airports, baggage handlers and maintenance, repair and overhaul service providers. Applications will be open until October 30, 2020.
In addition to the main corporate partners, software provider Microsoft, law firm HFW, venture capital fund Cocoon Capital and Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore) will supply advice and mentorship for participants.
George Wang, Singapore Airlines’ senior vice-president for information technology, said: “Singapore Airlines is glad to be a corporate partner of the Singapore Aviation Tech Accelerator Program.
“Nurturing the next generation of emerging aviation technologies and talent pool is an area we are passionate about. Collaborating with startups and further elevating our strong ecosystem will help us to emerge stronger after the Covid crisis and strengthen Singapore’s position as the aviation hub in the region.”
