Startupbootcamp says hola to Barcelona

European accelerator Startupbootcamp announced a three-month accelerator for internet of things and big data start-ups in the Spanish city of Barcelona yesterday.

In return for an 8% stake, Startupbootcamp will offer 10 start-ups mentorship, access to markets in Europe, Asia and the US, office space in its Barcelona start-up hub, €15,000 ($20,000) in funding, €450,000 ($600,000) in partner services, and exposure to a network of angels and venture capital investors through a pre-demo day at the 4YFN event in April 2015.

A number of prominent corporate partners for the accelerator will be announced over the coming months, according to TechCrunch, and networking technology company Cisco is also set to open an Internet of Everything innovation centre on the same site as the Startupbootcamp hub.

The Barcelona programme is backed by entrepreneurs Angel Garcia, who will take the position of managing director, and Marcos Cuevas, who will act as programme manager. Claro Partners co-founder Aldo de Jong is also cited as a co-founder of the new accelerator. Applications are open now and will close on the 20th of November.

Startupbootcamp operates in more than 30 countries. It announced the 10 finalists for its London-based fintech programme, which is backed by corporates including Mastercard, Lloyds, Sberbank and Rabobank, in July.
