StatMuse, a US-based online service that allows users to analyse and visualise basketball statistics, has raised $10m from investors including entertainment and media conglomerate Walt Disney Company, TechCrunch has reported.
The round also featured talent agency United Talent Agency, Allen & Company, Greycroft Partners, Promus Ventures, Haas Portman, Deep Fork Capital, Bee Partners and former NBA commissioner David Stern. StatMuse was a 2015 graduate of Disney Accelerator, the accelerator initiative run by Walt Disney and accelerator Techstars.
StatMuse uses artificial intelligence to power an interactive platform that allows fans to search, share and discover sporting data using natural language algorithms. The information can then be presented using a graphic interface.
The service is still in beta and currently only operates with basketball statistics, but StatMuse intends to use the funding to expand the platform to other sports. Disney-owned sport network ESPN has agreed to provide it with statistical content during the 2015-16 NBA season.
StatMuse previously raised $1.3m of seed capital in June 2015, according to a regulatory filing.
