Aviary, a US-based photo editing application, has raised $6m from a consortium including undisclosed strategic investors. [Editor’s note: later revealed as chip maker AMD’s corporate venturing unit, AMD Ventures.]
The named investors were venture capital firm Spark Capital and Bezos Expeditions, the investment vehicle of Jeff Bezos, chief executive of online retailer Amazon.
The company’s regulatory filing listed Joshua Stylman, founder of Reprise Media (acquired by Interpublic in 2007), as the only director not part of the company’s employee base.
Aviary said eight million people had used its platform to edit 100 million photos in the past 30 days.
The company previously raised $7m from the same investors in 2009, according to news provider All Things Digital, and $3.75m the year before, according to its regulatory filing.
