Lithium battery module producer Sunwoda Electronic has co-led a RMB100m ($14.4m) series A round for Ankebox, a China-based operator of charging stations for mobile devices, China Money Network reported on Wednesday.
The round was co-led by IDG Capital, which completed its its acquisition of the IDG Ventures family of firms affiliated with media and events provider International Data Group earlier this week.
Established in 2015, Ankebox has set up a network of chargers in public locations such as shopping centres and restaurants that can be used to charge smartphones and other mobile electronic devices.
Users locate nearby chargers through the Wechat messaging app and book them through a QR code, returning the chargers to any station within the network when they are finished.
Ankebox claims to have deployed more than 100,000 chargers across a dozen cities in China. It aims to boost that number to 3.6 million chargers by the end of 2017.
