Switzerland’s national phone operator has agreed its second exit from its corporate venturing unit with the sale of LiberoVision to media production company Vizrt.
Swisscom Ventures bought 8% of local company LiberoVision, which improves sports broadcasts with virtual technology, in April 2007.
LiberoVision was founded the year before as a spin-off from the computer graphics laboratory of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich (ETHZ).
ETHZ has been one of the most successful European insitutions for incubating and spinning off its research with at least 20 successful start-ups, although US-based Stanford has had more than 3,000.
LiberoVision’s sale was agreed last month, just as Firecomms, another Swisscom Ventures portfolio company, was sold to China-based ZJF Group, also for an undisclosed amount.
