Syngenta helps Metabolon raise $13.1m

The corporate venturing unit of agricultural company Syngenta has invested in the latest $13.1m funding round raised by bio-chemical company Metabolon.

Syngenta Ventures invested in the series D round alongside pre-initial public offering investor Keating Capital and venture firms Sevin Rosen Funds, Aurora Funds, Harris & Harris Group, Fletcher Spaght and financial services firm Fulcrum Financial.

Metabolon detects and quantifies the molecules present in biological specimens.

News provider News Observer said earlier this year Metabolon had raised $32m since 2000, when it reported the latest fundraising was happening. Metabolon extended its series C round to $12.3m October 2009. Other previous backers of Metabolon include Alexandria Equities.

Carol Marino, vice-president of Syngenta Ventures, joined Metabolon’s board in 2009.
