US-based eSports platform developer Unikrn has secured $7m in a series A round backed by investors including gambling and gaming company Tabcorp.
Investment fund Binary Capital led the round, which also included funding from early-stage investment fund Advancit Capital, venture capital funds 500 Startups and Indicator Ventures, Freelands Group and entrepreneur Mark Cuban.
Founded by Rahul Sood, formerly general manager for software producer Microsoft’s corporate venturing subsidiary Microsoft Ventures, Unikrn runs a platform through which users can watch, and in areas where it is legal, bet on the outcome of competitive video gaming.
The round followed a $3m seed round raised by Unikrn in February this year. Global Corporate Venturing originally reported the equity investment by Tabcorp, which is also one of Unikrn’s strategic partners, in May.
