TIS Ventures, the corporate venturing subsidiary of Japan-based outsourcing and cloud services provider TIS, has named Shin Takano as senior vice-president.
Takano came from electronic component manufacturer Murata Manufacturing, where he had been a director of its corporate venture capital arm, Murata Ventures, since 2010, having previously been a manager at its parent company for three years.
During Takano’s time at Murata Ventures the unit invested in data management platform operator Locix and semiconductor developer Arctic Sand Technologies, having also been a limited partner in funds for venture capital firms Autotech Ventures and Pangaea Ventures.
Regarding TIS Ventures, Takano told Global Corporate Venturing: “It is a reformed business development arm of our SV (Fintech Fund) branch, formerly known as TIS R&D Centre.
“We have a function to do strategic investments, but it is just one of the many ways to establish and develop strategic relationships with partner companies.
“We [provide] platform IT technologies to over 10,000 customers across different industries. On top of the platform technologies, we are to integrate and provide new services to customers in different verticals, working with appropriate business partners in respective industries.”
