Takeda finds rich pasture with Meadows hire

Bruce Meadows has been appointed head of investments for Japan-based healthcare company Takeda’s digital health corporate venturing unit, Hatch.

Founded in 2017 by Bruno Villetelle, now head of data and digital at Switzerland-based Novartis’ global drug development team, Hatch is run out of Zurich, Switzerland, by Stephanie Bova.

Takeda maintains a separate corporate venturing unit, Takeda Venture Investments, run by Mike Martin, for biotech investments.

Meadows has a long history in digital health and medical devices, stretching back 20 years to venture capital firm GBS Venture Partners and more recently as a partner at medical technology accelerator MD Start and a founding partner at wealth manager Innovation Investment Partners.

His promotion follows Meadows’ arrival at Hatch as an entrepreneur in residence in August 2018. Digital health companies have surged in the past year with four flotations, including corporate venture-backed Livongo, Health Catalyst and Phreesia.
