Tattoodo, a Denmark-based platform for tattoo enthusiasts backed by t-shirt e-commerce company Threadless, has raised $8.5m in funding, according to Nordic9, which cited a report in local newspaper Børsen.
The money was supplied by a range of angel investors, such as Jimmy Maymann, executive vice-president at media company AOL; Christian Stadil, owner of sportswear producer Hummel; and Andy Chen, former chief executive of music streaming service Aspiro.
Founded in 2013, Tattoodo operates an online marketplace for tattoo artists that enables users to leave feedback on designs uploaded to the platform. The company claims to have 15 million monthly visitors, and had previously secured a total of approximately $5m in funding, according to Nordic9.
Tattoodo most recently received $2.5m in a February 2016 round featuring angel investor Jimmy Maymann as well as Threadless CEO Jake Nickell; Tom Ryan, chief executive of television streaming platform Pluto TV; and Rene Rechtman, international president of online content provider Maker Studios.
Threadless made a strategic investment in Tattoodo in 2013. The size of that commitment was undisclosed, though deals database CrunchBase places it at $450,000.
