US-based mobile gaming startup Wonder has raised an undisclosed amount in a series A round co-led by smartphone manufacturer TCL Communication, taking its total funding to $14m, TechCrunch has reported.
Venture capital firm Grishin Robotics co-led the round with TCL, the owner of brands including BlackBerry and Alcatel, while 8VC, Third Wave Digital, Greycroft Partners and angel investors including performers Shakira and Kevin Spacey also participated.
Wonder is still in stealth mode but has revealed it is developing virtual reality-ready gaming hardware. Details of the product are limited but it is expected to bring together elements of mobile gaming, mobile device and VR technology.
The company is inviting people to users take part in an early user pilot it refers to on its website as its Alpha Program. The series A funding follows reports of a seed round of undisclosed size closed by Wonder in July 2016.
