Telecommunications firm Telstra’s corporate venturing unit, Telstra Ventures, has led a $12m series B round for US-based customer service platform developer Boomtown.
Capital One Growth Ventures, the growth investment arm of financial services firm Capital One, also took part in the round, as did NHN Ventures, internet services provider NHN’s corporate venturing arm, and venture capital firms Commerce Ventures, Nyca Partners and Spider Capital.
Founded in 2013, Boomtown has created a software platform called Relay to help companies provide product support for their customers, communicating and answering questions quickly and easily. It will put the funding toward company growth and product development.
The company raised $1.6m in equity funding in January 2018 according to a securities filing, having received an undisclosed sum from Telstra the year before.
Boomtown had secured $12.7m across four rounds between 2014 and 2016 but it is unclear whether Telstra, whose investment was disclosed later in the year, was included in those.
