Tencent, Google Ventures press play at Kamcord

China-based internet company Tencent and the corporate venturing unit of US-based search engine Google have helped Kamcord, a US-based mobile gameplay recording company, raise $1.5m.

The seed round raised by the San Francisco-based company was also joined by venture firms Andreessen Horowitz, Merus Capital, XG Ventures, Digital Garage, Plug and Play Tech Center, iVentureCapital, GVA Capital, e-commerce company Netprice and Y Combinator.

Angel investors included Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer, Y Combinator Partners Harj Taggar, Aaron Iba, Garry Tan, and Alexis Ohanian, HomeRun co-founders Jared Kopf and Matt Humphrey;,3LM co-founders Tom Moss and Gaurav Mathur, and Zoodles chief executive Mark Williamson.

Kamcord launched in June of this year and is live in more than 50 games on the Apple App Store.

David Wallerstein, senior executive vice president of Tencent, said: “We are excited to be a seed investor in Kamcord and look forward to seeing how user behavior evolves around the availability of player controlled video recording of their mobile gaming sessions.”
