Mobile telecommunications network Proximus has invested an undisclosed amount in Belgium-based network convergence software developer Tessares.
Proximus, a subsidiary of telecoms company Belgacom, provided the money alongside Vives II – Louvain Technology Fund, an investment fund affiliated with Catholic University of Louvain, from which Tessares was recently spun off.
Tessares will also partner with Proximus as it looks to develop software that will be used by telecommunications operators across the world to offer a service that combines different mobile access networks such as fixed broadband, 3G and 4G, and wi-fi.
Dominique Leroy, CEO of Proximus, said: “We are very pleased to collaborate with Tessares to co-develop a new technology that fits perfectly within our strategy of convergence and our objectives of enhanced customer experience.
“This agreement with Tessares clearly shows Proximus’ commitment to innovation and our intention to strengthen the partnerships with the academic world, which is a major driving force of innovation in our country.”
