Tim Danford switches to Intel

Tim Danford has left his position as a venture partner at venture firm Lightspeed Venture Partners to take up a role at Intel Capital, the corporate venturing unit of chipmaker Intel, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

Danford has been appointed as an investment director by Intel. He joined Lightspeed in 2013 and worked at incubating start-ups focused on enterprise and mobile technology. Prior to that role, he was managing director at venture capital firm Storm Ventures.

Danford is an engineer who began his career at computer networking technology company Cisco, where he worked in corporate development and mergers and acquisitions. He also co-invented and patented technology for movile IT company Mobile Iron during his time there as a director between 2007 and 2012.

Following his appointment, Danford stated that mobile technology had entered “a renaissance period”, which Intel has the best resources to support.

Danford said: “Intel’s deal flow is equal and sometimes greater than the large venture capital firms, and the amount of capital invested is equal and sometimes greater, and the amount of resources made available to startups is definitely greater.”
