Mobile network operator NTT Docomo has secured a 39.7% stake in Japan-based customer management platform Toreta, partially through a ¥3bn ($27.2m) investment, according to The Bridge.
In addition to its primary investment, NTT Docomo has also purchased shares from existing investors for an undisclosed sum.
Restauarnts can use Toreta’s mobile platform to take online reservations and manage their capacity. The company plans to begin accepting payments through the service in 2019 and will promote NTT Docomo’s mobile payments and rewards redemption service.
Toreta raised raised $12m in an October 2016 round featuring NTT Docomo subsidiary NTT Docomo Ventures as well as Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Venture Capital and Salesforce Ventures, respective vehicles for insurance provider Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance and enterprise software provider Salesforce.
Eight Roads Ventures Japan, a venture capital arm of financial services and investment group Fidelity, led the round, which included Femto Growth Capital, World Innovation Lab and ISG Investment Works.
Toreta had raised $2.6m in a series B round eight months earlier that included Salesforce Ventures, trading group Itochu, marketing firm Dentsu’s Dentsu Digital unit and ISG that increased its overall funding to $8.2m.
