Toyota provides $8m for Preferred Networks

Automotive manufacturer Toyota Motor Corporation is set to invest ¥1bn ($8.3m) in Japan-based language processing and machine learning technology developer Preferred Networks.

Preferred Networks was spun out of technology research firm Preferred Infrastructure in March 2014, and is developing real-time machine learning technologies that can be integrated into internet of things products.

Toyota and Preferred Networks will also look to collaborate on artificial intelligence that could be used for automated driving technology, as well as increasing connectivity and interactivity in cars.

The deal is expected to go through on December 30, 2015 when shares in Preferred Networks are transferred to Toyota through a third party.
