Transcriptic, the US-based developer of a robotic cloud research platform for life sciences, has received $13.4m in series A-1 funding from investors including WuXi AppTec, a subsidiary of pharmaceutical firm WuXi PharmaTech.
Data Collective led the round, which included Digital Science and AME Cloud Ventures. It came after Transcriptic had raised $8.5m from Data Collective, AME Cloud, IA Ventures, Silicon Valley Bank, 500 Startups, MITS Fund and various angel investors in February 2015.
Founded in 2012, Transcriptic uses its automated biology platform to conduct research for institutions and large drug developers. The funding will be used to expand the company’s team and further develop its technology.
The company has raised just over $27m in total, including $1.2m a 2013 seed round led by GV, the corporate venturing unit then known as Google Ventures, and backed by Data Collective, Boost.vc and AME Cloud Ventures. GV and IA Ventures added $2.8m in 2014.
