Treato blows with Reed Elsevier

Treato, an Israel-based company analyzing social trends for pharmaceutical groups, has raised $14.5m in its series B round from a consortium including Anglo-Dutch publisher Reed Elsevier’s corporate venturing group.

Alongside Reed Elsevier Ventures, which had invested in its undisclosed seed and A rounds from 2009, were venture capital firms OrbiMed Israel Partners, which led the round after raising $222m in 2011, and New Leaf Venture Partners, angel investor Shmuel Cabilly and venture debt provider Western Technology Investments.

Treato has aggregated and analyzed more than 1.3 billion patient conversations about 24,000 drugs and conditions from thousands of sites.

Tony Askew, head of Reed Elsevier Ventures, said: “Treato has redeveloped its entire data ingestion and machine reading capability on Hadoop and so this round will be use for sales and marketing.”
