Trident forks Intel’s Cunningham

Sean Cunningham, director of venture investments at Intel Capital, the corporate venturing division of chip maker Intel, is due to step down from his position and join venture capital firm Trident Capital Cybersecurity (TCC).

Cunningham will become managing director at TCC when he joins the firm on September 21, TCC revealed on Friday. He will work alongside its existing managing directors Alberto Yépez and Don Dixon, and will focus on early-stage cybersecurity startups.

Cunningham joined Intel Capital in 2000 and has primarily been involved with investments in the cybersecurity sector. He sits on the board of security hardware manufacturer AlienVault, virtualisation software producer Bromium and surveillance technology developer SS8, among others.

In total, he oversaw investments in 22 companies and celebrated 13 exits. He originally joined the parent company Intel in 1994 as its director of marketing.

Yépez said: “Trident Capital has known Sean Cunningham for more than a decade. We have worked closely together since 2005 as co-investors in TriCipher (acquired by VMware); Solera Networks (acquired by BlueCoat); AlienVault and HyTrust.

“Sean is well respected by entrepreneurs, co-investors, board members and go-to-market partners.”
