Tripping, a US-based holiday home rental platform backed by human resources firm Recruit Holdings, secured $35m in a series C round on Wednesday led by investment firm Princeville Global.
Private equity firm Adams Street Partners and unnamed existing shareholders also participated in the round.
Founded in 2010, Tripping operates a metasearch engine that allows users to find, compare and book short-term accommodation that is listed on third-party platforms such as TripAdvisor and Booking.com. Tripping currently lists approximately 10 million properties.
The money will help Tripping build brand recognition both in the US and internationally, and to expand globally, with a particular focus on Asia where Princeville will assist the company’s efforts. Matt Krna, managing director of Princeville Global, will join Tripping’s board of directors.
Tripping previously raised $16m in a series B round led by Steadfast Venture Capital, with participation from Seas Venture Partners, Enspire Capital, Azure Capital and assorted angel investors.
Recruit’s RGIP division, which invests in startups outside of Japan, co-led a series A round of undisclosed size with Quest Venture Partners in 2014, with Draper Associates and various private investors also contributing. Quest, Draper and LaunchCapital had supplied $1m in seed capital to Tripping in 2011.
