Game developer and publisher CrowdStar, has appointed Jeffrey Tseng, co-founder and general manager of products, to chief executive. Former chief executvie and co-founder Peter Relan returns to his position of executive chairman on the board of directors.
Tseng has played a key role in the gaming company’s development from Facebook games to mobile platforms.
Former chief executive Relan said, “Jeffrey was instrumental in the company’s successful pivot to mobile social gaming. His four years at CrowdStar building free-to-play games, combined with his prior background at Sega building AAA games like Iron Man, make him the ideal choice for the next phase of the company’s growth in mobile.”
Tseng was previously a co-founder of Secret Level, a US-based game developer bought by Sega for $15m in 2006.
CrowdStar is backed by Time Warner Investments, the corporate venturing division of media group Time Warner, Intel Capital, the chip maker’s Intel’s corporate venturing unit, incubator YouWeb and The9, an online game developer and operator. Founded in 2008 CrowdStar raised $11.5m earlier this year and raised $23m in 2011.
