US-based interactive entertainment company Two Bit Circus secured $6.5m on Wednesday in a series A round that included Intel Capital, semiconductor manufacturer Intel’s corporate venturing unit.
The round was co-led by Techstars Ventures, which acts as the venture capital branch of accelerator Techstars, and VC firm Foundry Group. It represents the first external funding to be raised by the startup, which was founded in 2012.
Two Bit Circus produces public installations based on existing passive entertainment. The company intends to use the series A capital to expand its biggest venture, Steam Carnival, an installation featuring high-tech games and workshops, into a national brand.
Additional cash will go to developing original virtual reality, mobile and web-based content, and scaling its entertainment rental service for business conferences and events.
Brent Bushnell, CEO and co-founder of Two Bit Circus, said: “We are thrilled to be working with such great partners to bring our crazy circus to a broader audience.”
