U-Systems screens its next $6.5m

U-Systems, a US-based developer of breast ultrasound technology, has raised $6.5m from its existing investors including iD SoftCapital Group, a venture capital (VC) group established by Taiwan-based computer maker Acer’s founder, Stan Shih.

Other investors in the round included VC firms Lumira Capital (formerly MDS Capital), PIIH, Radius Ventures and Sycamore Ventures (which had backed Acer).

In March last year, U-Systems raised $10m from the above consortium. This followed a $16.5m round in June 2007 led by Siemens Venture Capital, the corporate venturing unit of Germany-based industrial conglomerate Siemens, and including Sycamore, MDS Capital, Radius Ventures, Kinetic Capital, United Investments, President International Development Corporation, iD Innovation, China Investment & Development Company and TSC Bioventures.

The following year, Siemens became a non-exclusive distributor for U-Systems’ technology and products.
