USAA returns to Robin Systems in $17m round

USAA Ventures, the venture capital arm of insurance and financial services provider USAA, led a $17m series B round for US-based data management technology developer Robin Systems on Tuesday.

The round included venture capital firms Hasso Plattner Ventures, Clear Ventures and DN Capital, all of which like USAA were identified by the company as existing investors.

Founded in 2013, Robin has created a software platform that enables organisations to manage big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and database-connected applications using the Kubernetes container orchestration platform.

The round increased the company’s overall funding to $39m and came after it raised $15m in a 2015 series A round led by an undisclosed USAA subsidiary and backed by DN Capital, Hasso Plattner Ventures and unnamed existing backers.

Robin CEO Premal Buch said: “Surprisingly, even with the numerous platforms available for Kubernetes, most require IT and DevOps to undertake lengthy third-party integrations as well as execute tedious, manual, repetitive processes for each on-premise and cloud installation.

“Our series B round validates that Robin is uniquely equipped to make a difference for DevOps and IT, dramatically increasing productivity and reducing costs while improving resource allocation and performance.”
