Viddy gains media angels

Qualcomm-backed social video website Viddy has added US media angels as investors.

News provider VentureBeat said actor Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and rapper Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, along with singer Shakira, skateboarder Rob Dyrdek, soccer star Gerard Pique, Skull Candy chairman Jeff Kear, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, ShoeDazzle founder Brian Lee and Omniture founder Josh James have all invested or partnered with Viddy.

In February, US-based Viddy raised $6m in series A funding from venture capital (VC) firms Battery Ventures and Greycroft Ventures, with participation from Qualcomm Ventures, the corporate venturing unit for telecom and semiconductor corporation Qualcomm.

The round took Viddy’s overall financing to $8.2m, with prior investors including VC firm Bessemer Venture Partners and assorted angel investors.
