Videosurf has raised $16m from venture capital firm Pitango Venture Capital and undisclosed strategic investors after being awarded a patent for its proprietary computer vision technology that enables computers to "see" frames inside videos to allow them to be searched.
Lior Delgo, chief executive and co-founder of VideoSurf, who previously founded real-time search engine FareChase that he sold to Yahoo in August 2004, said: "Our technology allows consumers to easily discover what to watch on any device from the infinite amount of videos available.
"This funding gives us the resources to scale the company as we continue to hire the best talent and invest in our technology."
Videosurf, which has more than 20 million unique users per month, has raised $28m in total since 2006.
