View, a US-based dynamic glass producer backed by conglomerate General Electric, has raised $28.7m of a $75m late-stage venture round, according to an SEC filing.
Founded in 2007 as Soladigm, View has developed smart glass to be used in windows that can tint depending on the level of light outside, saving energy that would be used in lighting.
View received $100m in January 2014 from Madrone Capital Partners, and it has now raised about $440m in total debt and equity.
The company’s backers also include glass manufacturer Corning, which participated in a $60m round in 2013 with General Electric unit GE Capital and Khosla Ventures; data storage company Seagate, DBL Investors, NanoDimension, Navitas Capital, Reinet Investments, Sigma+ Partners and Westly Group.
GE Energy Financial Services, another unit owned by GE, also contributed to View’s $40m series C round, which closed in early 2011.
