US-based video marketing platform Virool raised $12m in series A funding yesterday from internet company Yahoo Japan, venture capital firms Menlo Ventures and 500 Startups, and VC fund Flint Capital.
Founded in 2012, Virool has established a video advertising platform that provides real-time insight into the performance of a campaign. Brands can add interactive content such as clickable banners to videos in order to guide viewers to a website or product.
The money will support Virool’s expansion across North America, Latin America and Europe and will enable the company to enter Asia-Pacific countries with the help of Yahoo Japan.
Virool graduated from accelerator Y Combinator in 2012 before obtaining $6.6m in a seed round closed in 2013 and backed by FundersClub, TMT Investments, Thomvest Ventures, Menlo Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurveston, 500 Startups, Phenomen Ventures, DominateFund and assorted angel investors.
