Viz.ai gets another visit from GV in $100m round

US-based brain scanning technology developer Viz.ai has secured $100m in a series D round featuring GV, a corporate venturing subsidiary of internet and technology group Alphabet.

Tiger Global Management and Insight Partners co-led the round, which included Kleiner Perkins, Scale Ventures, Threshold, CRV, Susa Ventures and Sozo Ventures, at a valuation of $1.2bn.

Viz.ai uses artificial intelligence technology to detect if patients have suffered from neurovascular and vascular conditions such as strokes. It claims the technology assists in the care of a patient every 32 seconds across more than 1,000 hospitals.

The funding will be used to support the company’s growth, grow its global customer base and expand its platform to carry out detection and triage functions for more diseases.

The company has launched products for aortic disease, pulmonary embolism and cerebral aneurysms over the past year and is waiting for clearance for a subdural haematoma product.

Insight Partners had also co-led Viz.ai’s $71m series C with Scale Venture Partners in March 2021, investing alongside Kleiner Perkins, CRV, Innovation Endeavors, Susa Ventures and Threshold.

Greenoaks Capital led a $50m series B round for the company in 2019 that also featured GV, Threshold, CRV and Kleiner Perkins. Viz.ai had received $21m in a series A round the previous year led by Kleiner Perkins predecessor Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and backed by GV.

The company’s $7.5m seed round was co-led by DHVC and Innovation Endeavors in 2017 with backing from AME Cloud Ventures.

Viz.ai’s co-founder and chief executive, Chris Mansi, said: “Viz.ai is committed to helping patients get better, faster and more equitable access to life-saving treatments.

“We will continue to invest heavily in cutting-edge technology and services to integrate deeply into the clinical workflow, allowing us to automate disease detection, increase diagnostic rates and enhance workflows across the entire hub and spoke health system.”
