US-based media company Walt Disney is looking for 10 startups to join the second cohort of its programme that it operates with accelerator Techstars, The Star reported yesterday.
The Disney Accelerator, which ran from June to September in the US last year, will now select startups from Malaysia and the surrounding region.
The programme will again last three months and begin in July, to end with a demo day in October. The accelerator accepts applications from startups working on media and entertainment-related technologies.
Selected startups will receive $120,000 in seed funding and be given access to resources across Disney’s studios as well as an opportunity to connect with mentors including executives at Disney. Techstars will provide access to its global network of mentors and alumni.
Alumni from last year’s cohort include Codarica, which uses storytelling to teach children how to code, Naritiv, a marketing company for social media platform Snapchat, and Sphero, a robotic ball game that is controlled via a smartphone app.
