Walt Disney picks fourth accelerator batch

US-based entertainment and media group Walt Disney has announced the 11 companies taking part in its 2017 Disney Accelerator.

The participants in the scheme, Disney Accelerator’s fourth batch, will receive undisclosed amounts of funding as well as access to co-working space and mentoring from Disney’s network of entertainment and technology professionals.

The 11 companies include audio technology developer Ambidio, eSports company Axiomatic, lifestyle media platform Brit + Co, video game technology developer Epic Games, and local news and content provider Hoodline.

Game-based education platform Kahoot, collaborative entertainment production tool ProductionPro, mobile commerce startup ReplyYes, media data analytics provider Samba TV, indoor robot developer Savioke and immersive entertainment creator The Void complete the list.

The participants will be invited to showcase their products to Disney executives at a demo day in October 2017.

Michael Abrams, senior vice-president of innovation at Disney, said: “The Disney Accelerator has provided the Walt Disney Company incredible opportunities to connect with and be inspired by many talented entrepreneurs from all over the world.

“This year, more than ever, we are working with companies with the potential to help define the future of media and entertainment together with Disney.”
