Grill manufacturer Weber Stephen Products acquired June, a US-based countertop convection oven maker backed by e-commerce group Amazon, for an undisclosed amount yesterday.
Founded in 2013, June markets a smart countertop convection oven designed to be an all-in-one cooking appliance. The company’s ovens can connect to a mobile app that allows users to adjust time and temperature as well monitor what is being cooked through live video.
In 2016, June raised $22.5m in a series A round led by Eclipse Ventures that also featured Sound Ventures, Vaizra Investments, Promus Ventures, Lumia Capital and existing backers including Foundry Group, First Round Capital and Lerer Hippeau.
Weber had led a series C round of undisclosed size for the company in 2018, June co-founder and chief executive Matt Van Horn told TechCrunch this week. Its other investors included Amazon’s Alexa Fund, M13 and Industry Ventures.
June president Matt Van Horn said: “We are proud to join Weber, the global leader in grilling and a partner we have enjoyed a meaningful relationship with for some time.”
“This deal immediately broadens the reach of our technology and gives all June team members exciting new challenges to continue to bring intelligent cooking to households worldwide.”
