Finance provider Wellington Financial has provided $5m in growth capital for Agiliance, an Intel-backed provider of IT services for government agencies and businesses. US-based Agiliance had previously raised $19m from Intel Capital, Red Rock Ventures, Walden International, Castile Ventures and Silicon Valley Bank.
Sweden-based Innometrics, the developer of a customer behaviour platform for brands, has raised $5m in a series A round led by SEB Venture Capital, the investment arm of financial services firm SEB. Existing investor Fortunator Invest also participated in the round, along with unnamed angel investors.
Taiwan-based advertising platform Loyal Sun Holdings has secured an undisclosed amount of funding from I Mercury Capital, a corporate venturing subsidiary of internet company Mixi, according to The Bridge. Loyal Sun previously secured an undisclosed sum from investment firms Inspire and ICP in August 2013.
Lysosomal Therapeutics has secured $4.8m in seed funding in a round led by Atlas Venture that also included healthcare corporate venturing units Lilly Ventures, Sanofi-Genzyme BioVentures and Roche Venture Fund, alongside Hatteras Venture Partners, Partners Innovation Fund and several angel investors. US-based Lysosomal will use the funds to advance its neurodegenerative disease treatments, which are based on the gene for glucocerebrosidase.
Urban Engines, a US-based startup that seeks to use big data to reduce traffic congestion, has emerged from stealth mode, having raised an undisclosed sum from a seed round led by internet company Google’s corporate venturing unit Google Ventures, and also featuring Samsung Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Eric Schmidt, Ram Shriram, SV Angel and Greylock Partners.
LearnSprout, a US-based education data analytics firm, has announced that it raised $4.2m in August 2013 from Samsung Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of electronics manufacturer Samsung, corporate-backed venture firm Formation 8 and Justin Tan, who was previously the president of Blackboard. Formation 8 previously invested in LearnSprout’s $500,000 seed round, which also featured Andreesseen Horowitz.
SalesPredict, an Israel-based provider of a big data platform for sales leads, has secured $4.1m in a series A round co-led by internet technology developer Yandex and VC firm KG Capital. Pitango Venture Capital, AfterDox and RSL Venture Partners, all of which contributed to a $1m seed round raised by SalesPredict in April 2013, also participated.
Payment processing company Worldpay has invested an undisclosed amount in Pazien, a US-based developer of payment technology. Pazien, which is still operating in stealth mode, has not disclosed any previous funding.
Talkspace, a US-based startup enabling users to interact with qualified therapists, has raised $2.5m in a seed round co-led by Japan-based telecommunications company Softbank and VC firm Spark Capital. Ran Harnevo, president of video for internet company AOL, will also join the board of Talkspace, which launched an updated website and a new iOS app earlier this month.
Giphy, a US-based search engine for GIFs, has received $2.4m in a series A round supported by CAA Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of talent agency Creative Artists Agency, venture capital firms Lerer Ventures and RRE Ventures, and early backer Betaworks. Betaworks, which previously invested about $1m in 2013, provided roughly half of the capital for the latest round, according to TechCrunch.
US-based personal inventory platform Itembase has secured an undisclosed sum from UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund, the private equity arm of delivery service UPS. Itembase, which also has an office in Berlin, previously raised $3.3m in an October 2013 seed round featuring corporate-backed early stage investor High-Tech Gruenderfonds, Mountain Partners and WestTech Ventures.
YouEarnedIt, the US-based creator of an employee engagement app, has raised $1.5m in seed funding from marketing firm WPP and incubator Capital Factory, according to the Wall Street Journal. The company, which spun out of digital advertising agency Rockfish Interactive in 2011, the same year as Rockfish was acquired by WPP.
Bidorbuy has led a $1.5m round for another South Africa-based e-commerce site, uAfrica, Ventureburn has reported. Bidorbuy made the investment partly in order to enhance its own product offering to its online customers.
Bunkr, the France-based creator of a visual presentation platform, has secured €1m ($1.4m) from IdInvest, the private equity firm backed by insurance firm Allianz, as well as angel investors Daniel Marhely and Xavier Neil. The company will use the financing to accelerate the development of its product, and to assist its international growth.
Jukin Media, a US-based startup that promotes online video content, has closed a $1m seed round from backers including media company Bertelsmann’s corporate venturing unit, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI), Disney-owned video content provider Maker Studios, and Launchpad LA. Jukin and Maker signed an agreement last month that will involve Jukin’s channels being operated and monetised by Maker.
Rakuten Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of internet company Rakuten, has led a $1m seed round for ESTmob, the Korea-based developer of file sharing app Send Anywhere. ESTmob co-founder Suhyuk Kang told Tech in Asia that it will use the capital to expand its global user base and enhance the app’s features.
UK-based Satago, the creator of an online platform that automates credit control, has raised $1m from BDMI, AngelList, Emerge, and private investors William Reeve and Edward Wray. It previously secured $30,000 on crowdfunding website Seedrs in 2012.
Germany-based malware analysis software developer VMRay has received an undisclosed sum from a seed round including High-Tech Gruenderfonds. The company intends to invest the funding in developing and marketing its product.
