Tonara, the Israel-based developer of an interactive sheet music app, has raised $5m in a series B round backed by social network operator Baidu and venture capital firm Carmel Ventures, TechCrunch reported on Tuesday. The round followed a 2012 series A round which secured $4m from Carmel Ventures, Index Ventures, Lool Ventures and assorted angel investors, and a $750,000 seed round raised in 2011.
US-based deep and dark web intelligence provider Flashpoint secured $5m in series A financing today from investors including Bloomberg Beta, the early-stage investment arm of media company Bloomberg, and Cisco Investments, a corporate venturing subsidiary of networking technology provider Cisco. The round was led by TechOperators, and also included Greycroft Partners and consultancy firm K2 Intelligence (see below).
Cobi, the Germany-based creator of a smart connected biking system, closed a $4m seed round on Wednesday backed by Iris Capital, the VC firm backed by telecommunications company Orange and marketing firm Publicis, as well as Capnamic Ventures and Creathor Venture. The startup’s system, which is mounted on the handlebars, can upgrade an ordinary bicycle to a smart bike.
US-based virtual reality (VR) technology developer WorldViz received an undisclosed amount of series A funding from Intel Capital, the corporate venturing unit belonging to semiconductor technology maker Intel, on Tuesday. WorldViz will spend the funding on developing and distributing its VR app creation tools and services.
ResiModel, the US-based developer of a financial data platform, secured an undisclosed amount sum from investors including housing market research company Axiometrics on Tuesday that took its overall funding to $3.5m. The other investors in the round were VC firms Osage Venture Partners and Leading Edge Ventures, and angel investors Kevin Quinn, Kurt Roeloffs and Bob White.
US-based personal finance service MoneyStream has closed a $3.2m series A round led by tax preparation specialist H&R Block that included angel investors Bruno Bowden and Kim Polese. MoneyStream scans transactions and bills in a user’s recent history and uses predictive algorithms to forecast their cash flow.
Insurance company American International Group (AIG) paid an undisclosed amount for a minority stake in US-based corporate investigations consultancy K2 Intelligence on Wednesday. K2’s existing investors include RRE Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners and it had raised $25.8m prior to AIG’s investment according to regulatory filings.
Verifly, an Ireland-based startup developing technology to stop drones from crashing into each other in the air, has raised €2m ($2.1m) in seed funding from Irelandia Aviation and angel investors Robin Klein, who is also a partner in VC firm Index Ventures, Amol Sarva, and Serkan Piantino, according to Irish newspaper The Independent. The company was formed by Jay Bregman, the founder of taxi hailing app Hailo.
3Ten8, a US-based startup working on analytics technology for mobile network operators, has completed a $1.7m seed round, according to a regulatory filing on Wednesday. The company had earlier secured $250,000 from software producer Citrix;s Startup Accelerator programme in July 2014.
Ascend Consumer Finance, a US-based startup that provides adaptive financing packages based on credit scores, raised $1.5m on Tuesday from the venture capital arm of Securian Financial Group, Mucker Capital, OCA Ventures and Birchmere Advisors. The seed capital was revealed at the same time as the launch of Ascend’s flagship product, RateRewards.
Indonesia-based live video streaming startup Zeemi.tv closed a $1m seed round on Monday led by internet company DeNA that also included 500 Startups. It plans to invest the money in releasing an app for its platform, currently available on the web and Google Play, on iOS, improving its live-streaming technology and upgrading its marketing, with a long-term aim of expanding into additional markets in Southeast Asia.
Frenzoo, the China-based developer of a series of 3D mobile games called Me Girl, has secured $1m in seed funding from investors including Fresco Capital, K5 Ventures and Anshe Chung. The cash took Frenzoo’s overall funding to $3m, with its previous backers including game company Metaverse Services, Efficient Corporate and VC firms Siemer Ventures and Ambient Sound Investments.
Singapore-based mobile sports betting startup Kibow has raised ¥100m ($840,000) from CyberAgent Ventures, the investment subsidiary of internet company CyberAgent, and undisclosed angel investors, The Bridge reported on Wednesday. Kibow, which has secured a betting license in the Philippines and is now aiming to do the same in the UK, wants to eventually promote extreme and minority sports through its betting app.
