Weekly corporate venturing deal net: 30 March – 3 April 2015

InVent, the corporate venturing arm of telecommunications company InTouch, has provided a $750,000 seed round for Sinoze, a Thailand-based mobile games studio. The company has developed a music game called Thapster, which features both local and international artists’ materials and claims approximately one million active monthly users.

Silk Therapeutics, a US-based maker of skincare products, has secured a $2m series A round from diversified conglomerate Kraft Group. The company will use the funding to roll out its product line across north-eastern US, prepare for a national launch and develop products beyond skincare. Silk raised a $1.4m seed round in October 2014 according to a regulatory filing.

An unnamed, Colombia-based corporate venturing subsidiary has invested $1.5m in PlayVox, a US-based startup aiming to improve call centres with a platform that includes social recognition, rankings, prizes, training, as well as communication and management tools. The company has now raised approximately $2.2m.

Bruin Sports Capital, a diversified conglomerate operating in the media, sports, marketing, branding and lifestyle sectors, and RedBird Capital Partners have made an undisclosed investment in NFL On Location, the US-based events and hospitality subsidiary of the National Football League. The investment is concurrent to NFL On Location being spun out to be run by new holding company NewCo, operated by Bruin and RedBird.

Malaysia-based mobile app marketplace Duriana has obtained $2.5m from investment firm Beenos and existing investors, e-commerce company IBuy and Alps Ventures. Dealguru (since acquired by e-commerce company IBuy), Alps and angel investors previously invested a $800,000 seed round in December 2013.

Iris Capital, backed by phone operator Orange and advertising company Publicis, and Capnamic Ventures, a spin-out of media group DuMont Schauberg, have backed a $2.8m series A round for Adex, a Germany-based provider of data management solutions. Adex will use the cash injection to expand into France, the UK and Spain.

Technology company Xurpas acquired a 31.5% stake in Singapore-based multiplayer games platform MatchMe in exchange for an $1.4m investment. Under the terms of the transaction, Xurpas is licensing MatchMe’s platform and related games content as well as securing exclusive rights to market the platform on mobile phone networks in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Taiwan-based Every8D, which has developed enterprise chat software Team+, has raised a $4.5m series A round from components maker Joinsoon Electronics. Every8D will now increase its staff and expand internationally. The chat software is currently available in simplified and traditional Chinese as well as English.
