Weekly corporate venturing deal net: 30 November-4 December 2015

Video game producer Sega is set to invest “several millions of dollars” in GoGame, the Singapore-based operator of an automated game publishing platform, The Business Times reported yesterday. Japan-based Sega, which provided the cash through its Sega Networks mobile gaming division, was joined in the round by venture capital fund Incubate Fund.

Vanitee, the Singapore-based operator of a booking platform for beauty services, has completed a S$5m ($3.6m) series A round featuring Japan-based online cosmetics retailer Cosme and angel investor Ivan Lee, Tech in Asia reported yesterday. The startup closed the $1.4m first tranche of the round in September, having received funding from beauty and cosmetics supplier Luxasia and angel investor Robert Yap.

Contessa Health, the US-based developer of a platform that enables complex surgical procedures and the care of chronically ill patients to be handled in a home environment, raised $3.5m on Wednesday featuring BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners, the strategic investment fund licensed by health insurance association Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. The round also included Sandbox Advantage Fund and Martin Ventures.

Wiivv Wearables, a US-based startup that produces customisable, 3D printed wearable products, has closed a $3.5m seed round led by Eclipse VC, the hardware fund owned by venture capital firm Formation 8, and backed by chemicals producer Evonik Industries, apparel manufacturer Mas Holdings, Real Ventures and Asimov Ventures, Crowdfund Insider reported yesterday. Wiivv plans to raise money on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter in early 2016.

US-based high-end perfume producer Pinrose has secured $2.1m in funding from consumer product supplier Grace Beauty and venture capital firm Harrison Metal, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. Pinrose takes feedback from potential customers and recommends suitable scents based on their aesthetic preferences.

Social Change Rewards, the Canada-based developer of a wellness rewards platform, has raised $2m in a round led by Relay Ventures, the VC firm backed by smartphone manufacturer Blackberry, and which also included Lumira Capital, Epic Capital Management, Primary Capital and undisclosed angel investors. The startup has also secured funding from the Canadian federal government, the government of British Columbia and unnamed non-governmental and private sector organisations.

Oncology treatment developer Oncolys Biopharma provided $2m in seed funding for US-based cancer diagnostics technology startup Liquid Biotech USA on Wednesday. Liquid Biotech, a spin-out of University of Pennsylvania’s commercialisation arm, will use the funding to develop and refine its circulating tumour cells measurement technology.

IT services provider Girnar Software has invested $1m in CollegeDekho, the India-based creator of an online platform that connects students with higher education courses, Tech in Asia reported on Monday. Girnar is already the parent company of online automotive marketplace CarDekho and price comparison platform PriceDekho.
