GE Ventures and Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures, the corporate venturing subsidiaries of industrial product maker General Electric and oil and gas company Saudi Aramco, invested an undisclosed amount in US-based metal additive manufacturing technology provider Desktop Metal on Tuesday, taking its overall funding to $52m. Desktop Metal had raised $47.6m across two rounds, as of a securities filing in April 2016, and its other backers include 3D printing technology provider Stratasys, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, New Enterprise Associates and Lux Capital.
Triple W Japan, the Japan-based developer of a wearable device that predicts bowel movements, has raised ¥400m ($3.9m) in series A funding from 2020, the local investment subsidiary of contract manufacturer Foxconn, as well as ISGS Investment Works, Daiwa Corporate Investment, Mizuho Capital, SBI Investment and Revamp Corporation, and $980,000 in debt financing from Mizuho Bank and Japan Finance Corporation, The Bridge reported on Monday. It previously secured $450,000 from railway operator Hankyu and Hack Ventures, after raising an undisclosed sum from Nissay Capital and ISGS in April 2015.
Telstra Ventures, the corporate venturing subsidiary of telecommunications company Telstra, has invested an undisclosed amount in China-based app communications tool provider Cloopen, Computerworld reported today. Founded in 2012, Cloopen provides technology that enables developers to integrate communications functionality like messaging, video and voice calling into their apps.
India-based mobile app producer AppsDaily Solutions has received $2m in bridge funding from investors including Qualcomm Ventures, the strategic investment arm of mobile chip manufacturer Qualcomm, as well as Kalaari Capital, Ru-Net and Zodius Technology Opportunities Fund, VCCircle reported on Thursday, citing a regulatory filing. AppsDaily had previously raised about $26m from Qualcomm Ventures, Zodius, Kalaari and Blume Ventures, according to VCCircle.
Russia-based photographic filter app developer Prisma has received an undisclosed amount of funding from internet group Mail.ru, internet hosting service XBT and Gagarin Capital, East-West Daily News has reported. Mail.ru invested between $1m and $2m in Prisma, which allows users to combine art-themed filters to photos, as part of the round in return for a stake sized between 10% and 25%, according to Russian daily Vedomosti.
US-based remote design and collaboration software provider Mural secured $1.35m yesterday in a seed round featuring Intel Capital, which operates as semiconductor maker Intel’s corporate venturing arm, Alta Ventures, NXTP Labs and Collaborative Fund. Intel Capital, Alta Ventures and 500 Startups had already invested an undisclosed amount in Mural in 2012.
Siemens Venture Capital, the strategic investment arm of industrial product and appliance manufacturer Siemens, invested an undisclosed sum in Riffyn, a US-based developer of cloud software for R&D organisations, on Wednesday, taking the startup’s overall funding to $4.6m. Riffyn raised $1.8m in late 2014 and another $1.6m in February this year, according to regulatory filings, and its other investors include media company O’Reilly’s O’Reilly Alphatech Ventures unit and Bioeconomy Capital.
Instabridge, a Sweden-based wifi sharing app developer backed by telecom company Swisscom, has raised $1m in funding from Draper Associates and Balderton Capital, TechCrunch reported on Tuesday. The company has raised $5m since 2012, with Swisscom’s Swisscom Ventures subsidiary contributing to a $3m series A round in September 2015 that also featured Balderton, Moor and Creandum.
Internet services company Info Edge has invested Rs 50m ($740,000) in India-based online consumer products retailer HappilyUnmarried, VCCircle reported on Tuesday. Info Edge has now provided a total of Rs 150m in funding for HappilyUnmarried, which was founded in 2003, and increased its stake in the company from 44% to 48% with its latest investment.
