US-based sport video distributor Whistle Sports Network closed a $28m series B round yesterday featuring retail group Tengelmann, satellite television company Sky Broadcasting and cable service provider Liberty Global.
Existing investors including sportsmen Derek Jeter and Peyton Manning also participated in the round. Tengelmann invested through affiliate Emil Capital Partners.
The first tranche of the series B round was originally raised in November 2014 when Sky invested $7m in Whistle. The latest round follows an $8m series A round raised in 2012, according to Whistle.
Whistle curates online video content covering a range of sports. It originally launched as a multi-channel network on YouTube but has since expanded to other video sharing services such as Vine, Snapchat and Instagram.
