Wingz to spread with $11m

Online travel and tourism portal Expedia co-led an $11m series B round for Wingz, the US-based operator of a scheduled ride service for airports, on Monday.

Founded in 2011, Wingz runs an app that can be used to book private, fixed-price rides to and from airports, provided by local drivers. The app links to airports’ flight schedules, suggests a pick-up time and matches a user with a driver based on luggage load size and car size.

The round, which Expedia co-led with Altimeter Capital and Salesforce.com chief executive Marc Benioff, will be used by Wingz to strengthen its platform and to support expansion across the US.

The company raised $2m from Florence Venture Partners, Binux Capital, Blue Angel Ventures, Ocotea Holdings, Big Bloom Investments, Olive Tree and angel investor Larry Marcus in April 2015.
