India-based mobile game platform developer Winzo has raised $5m from unnamed backers for a second seed fund aimed at India’s games development ecosystem, the Economic Times has reported.
Founded in 2017, Winzo runs a mobile gaming portal with more than 25 million registered users and a selection of more than 70 titles including arcade, casual and board games.
The company raised $1.5m for its first fund in July 2019 and has reportedly committed the entirety of that money as part of plans to add 500 games to its platform.
Winzo’s first fund backed a total of nine game developers, all of which have now joined its marketplace, including Bhoos Entertainment, a startup focused on digital versions of South Asian card games.
Paavan Nanda, co-founder of Winzo Games, told local media outlets: “Through this initiative, we are committed to uplift the Indian gaming ecosystem which is at the cusp of disruption.”
