WndrCo falls for Infatuation in $30m deal

Media holding company WndrCo has invested $30m in US-based online restaurant discovery guide The Infatuation.

Founded in 2009, The Infatuation runs an online restaurant listings and reviews platform that spans 10 cities, mostly in the US, in addition to online guides for a further 21 cities worldwide.

The company also runs offline food-themed events and acquired restaurant guide publisher Zagat in March this year.

The funding will support The Infatuation’s expansion into hosting user-generated content, and co-founder and CEO Chris Stang, told TechCrunch it intends to grow Zagat as a separate brand to its own in addition to moving its offering into new cities.

Stang added in an official statement: “The unique opportunity ahead for The Infatuation created a need for an investment partner whose approach was founder-friendly and offered a commitment to a long-term time horizon, which we believe to be instrumental for success.

“Ann (Daly), Sujay (Jaswa), Jeffrey (Katzenberg) and the entire WndrCo team have the operational and domain expertise we were seeking in a partner, as well as a unique ability to navigate both the tech and content space which will help us achieve our immense growth potential.”
