WndrCo provides Tinkergarten with $21m to play with

Media holding company WndrCo has invested $21m in Tinkergarten, the US-based operator of an outdoor child-education network.

Founded in 2012, Tinkergarten provides outdoor-based learning courses to help children aged from six months to eight years old develop their physical, cognitive and social-emotional skills.

The company’s courses cover skills such as teamwork, communication, critical thinking, creativity and problem solving, as well as subjects like maths, literary and science. It is available in more than 1,800 locations across the US.

The funding will be used to expand Tinkergarten’s service to more cities and improve its course offering. WndrCo partners Ann Daly, Anthony Saleh and Andrew Chang will join the company’s board of directors in connection with its investment.

Daly said: “Tinkergarten provides a unique and thoughtful way to engage with children in their early learning that is different from anything we have seen.

“We share Tinkergarten’s vision to positively impact the way in which children learn and grow across the world and look forward to accelerating the organisation’s growth.”

Education-focused venture capital fund Owl Ventures led a $5.4m series A round for the company in August 2017, investing alongside Omidyar Network and Reach Capital.

Tinkergarten had previously raised $2.9m in seed funding from Brooklyn Bridge Ventures, Blue Seed Collective, City Light Capital, Plum Alley, 500 Startups, Outbound Ventures, Structure Capital, Vista Venture Partners and various private investors.
